Once the UK’s youngest professional radio presenter Carlos has spent 33 years working on some of the biggest radio stations across the UK. He wanted to be a radio presenter from an early age and by his 5th birthday had his own bedroom radio studio! His career took him from his West Country roots to breakfast host at Chiltern Radio & Northants 96 in the late 80s, before heading to Birmingham joining BRMB and launching the hugely popular ‘Call Carlos’ instant request feature – unique at the time. Whilst at BRMB he was the host of the station’s huge live concerts, often attracting crowds of in excess of 50,000 he worked alongside some of the most successful acts of the mid 90s including Robbie Williams and The Spice Girls. A successful 8 years on the morning show at Heart followed, before heading to the south coast to join Wave 105. He was lured back to the Midlands in 2007 to join Smooth Radio, and ultimately joined the station’s national line up in 2010 where his drivetime show attracted an audience of 1.5 million listeners! In the UK he still works for Smooth and also hosts a weekly show on the 5 BBC stations across the Midlands. When not presenting shows Carlos is often in the studio voicing commercials or interviewing guests. Carlos is married to Claire – whom he met when she was the journalist reading the news on his show! He says his greatest achievement is his two young children and he loves nothing more than planning family adventures – often with their touring caravan. Carlos has an eclectic music collection, featuring almost everything from Barry Manilow to Nirvana. His favourite genre is soul and he’s particularly fond of Motown, classic Northern Soul, and the music of Luther Vandross and Dusty Springfield. His favourite food is a traditional Sunday roast. He’s almost teetotal (with the exception of an occasional glass of wine or cold cider) and has weakness for floral shirts – at last count there were close to 50 in his wardrobe! Carlos’ pet hate is when someone asks if they can borrow one of his pens. He only uses vintage fountain pens, of which he has a huge collection and he tells us the nibs are all finely tuned to his scribbling.
