Fans around the world were heartbroken to learn that Swedish EDM star Tim Bergling, known by his stage name Avicii, was found dead in Muscat, Oman, on April 20.
The superstar was best known for his dance music and collaborations, topping charts around the world with 2013 mega-hit “Wake Me Up” and scoring 5 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as 28 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, among many other honours. Following his passing, memorials sprung up around the world, with a town in the Netherlands even playing some of his most popular songs with its bell tower in a tribute to the late Swedish artist.
The hugely successful artist was only 28 years old at the time of his death, raising concerns about his untimely passing. His family released a statement recently alluding to suspicions that the young man may have committed suicide.
“Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress,” read the statement, released Thursday. “When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most — music.”
Recent sources have reportedly told American media outlet TMZ that Avicii may have used a broken bottle to commit suicide, cutting himself with a shard of glass.
While many continue to speculate, we at Spectrum FM choose to celebrate the life and music of this talented artist, gone too soon. May he rest in peace.
